The U.S. "never took into account the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people," Putin said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that the current crisis in the Middle East is a clear example of the failures of U.S. policy in the region.

Putin made the remarks at a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in Moscow. "I think many will agree with me that this is a glaring example of the failures of U.S. policies in the Middle East. They tried to monopolize the peace agreement, but unfortunately they did not pay attention to finding compromises that would be acceptable to both sides," the president said.

Putin also referred to the Ukrainian crisis, which continues while the situation in the Middle East sharply worsens. In this regard, he criticized Washington which promotes "its own vision of what should be done, putting pressure on both sides."

The United States "never took into account the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people," Putin said, noting that these interests include the creation of an independent Palestinian nation state, as enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions.

Amid the current escalation of the conflict, Moscow has condemned any violence against the civilian population, regardless of the side wielding it. "I know that both your position, distinguished Mr. Prime Minister, and ours is that the harm to the civilian population should be minimized and reduced to zero. And we call on all parties to the conflict to do so," Putin said at the talks.

Russia has also expressed its readiness to contribute to the search for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "We are ready to continue efforts and play a role in the search for ways of settlement," Putin said.

Contrary to Russia's view that fighting extremism cannot substitute for genuine reconciliation based on a two-state solution, the U.S. has pledged military support to Israel and called on other nations to condemn Hamas for its actions.
