12-year-old Palestinian Mahmoud Khalil Samoudi died on Monday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.

Mahmoud Khalil Samoudi's death came nearly two weeks after he was shot in the abdomen by the Israeli army near the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

"The death of the boy Mahmoud Muhammad Khalil Samoudi, 12, as a result of the severe wounds he sustained a few days ago when he was shot with live bullets in the abdomen, in Jenin," the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The Israeli operation in Jenin on September 28 also left four Palestinian men dead and some 40 wounded in armed clashes with Palestinian fighters and widespread clashes with youths.

Following Samoudi's death, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres that the United Nations (UN) provide special protection for Palestinian children.

According to the letter, "since the beginning of 2022, Israel, the occupying power, has deliberately killed more than 44 Palestinian children and minors" by deliberately targeting their upper bodies.

Israeli forces have been carrying out almost daily incursions since last year, primarily focused on the northern West Bank cities of Jenin and Nablus. Palestinian armed resistance is increasingly organized in these cities.

More than 100 West Bank Palestinians have been killed this year by Israeli forces, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reports.
