Venezuela Increases Rescue Efforts in Las Tejerias

On Tuesday, President Nicolas Maduro's administration renewed efforts to continue this Tuesday the search for people who disappeared as a result of the landslide that occurred in the city of Tejerias.

“In Las Tejerias I have seen pain, clamor, desperation, and tears. Tejerías is not alone!”, Maduro said, emphasizing that the will of his administration to rebuild this city located in the State of Aragua.

Citizen Security Minister Remigio Ceballos informed that the support teams had delivered 300 tons of food as well as logistical equipment for the search for missing persons. Among the supplies delivered to the affected people are dry food, protein, and drinking water.

About 300 volunteers and firefighters are working hard day and night to find 56 people who are still missing. Rescuers are operating in a territory where the landslide completely destroyed 400 houses and partially affected another 400 houses.

The tweet reads, "The Bolivarian Militia is deployed in the community of Tejerias assisting the affected families. Where the People can, the Homeland grows. United, we will win."

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez mentioned that over 1,200 officials are deployed in Las Tejerias carrying out tasks related to the reestablishment of public services and the protection of affected families.

Las Tejerias is located in the Santos Michelena municipality, where the 2021 Living Conditions Survey recorded a population of 37,848 people made up of 19,991 women and 17,857 men.

Local outlets estimate that the landslide destroyed the municipality's main aqueduct systems, leaving over 10,000 people without access to drinking water. This figure would have been confirmed in an inspection carried out by Vice President Rodriguez.
