Gustavo Petro, mayor of the Colombian Capital of Bogota, says the death threats are coming from right wing groups

​Bogota Mayor Gustavo Petro has revealed that he is receiving death threats from far-right paramilitary groups.

Petro told told a press conference Friday that an anonymous e-mail had labelled him “the greatest criminal in the Colombian capital,” and added that “good Colombians deplore his governance.” The email goes on to say that the,authors will kill the Mayor before he finishes his mandate, December 2015.

“(The authors) share a paramilitary ideology, even if I can’t add the ‘military’ term, they claim to have soldiers. They really are far-right groups," said Petro.

The e-mail also included threats against other city officials.

Over 160 death threats have been issued against human right activists and journalists this month alone in Colombia.
