Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, attended Sunday the commemoration of the 26th anniversary of the 1992 civic-military rebellion commanded by former President Hugo Chavez, which gave way to the Bolivarian Revolution.

During the event, held on the outskirts of the presidential palace of Miraflores, the president recognized the Venezuelan people for their massive assistance and their loyalty to the Revolution and Chavez's legacy.

"On National Dignity Day, it is demonstrated that ... Chavez is more alive than ever in his empowered town, deployed in the streets, squares and avenues of Caracas," Maduro said.

The president acknowledged the spirit of patriotism and bravery of the Chavista people in the face of the adversities of the economic war caused by opposition groups and foreign imperialist forces.

"That rebelliousness of Feb. 4 is today more valid than ever. Feb. 4 is more future than the past and must be every day against the economic war, imperialism, against corruption and traitors," Maduro added.

The Day of National Dignity, known as 4F, is celebrated by the Venezuelan people each year in commemoration of the uprising of the people and the military forces against then President Carlos Andres Perez for his neoliberal policies.

The uprising was led by Chavez, who in 1992 was a military lieutenant who delivered the famous and hopeful phrase "for now" to the people and the media.
