Rohingyas Stuck in Limbo As Officials Debate Repatriation

Since Aug 25, over 500,000 Rohingya have streamed into Bangladesh, joining over 300,000 refugees fleeing military violence raised since the early 1990s.

After almost five months, Bangladeshi and Myanmar officials are expected to sign an “Arrangement on Return of Displaced Persons from Rakhine State”, setting the tone for a major repatriation of the 620,000 Rohingya refugees.

“What we’re trying to do is to sign an MoU that will enable us to start the repatriation of all those refugees who’ve gone over the border,” said Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Officials are expected to sign the agreement Thursday which will allow for a "voluntary, safe and dignified"return of the thousands of religious asylum seekers from Bangladesh.
