Catalonia: Independentists Demand Release Of Political Prisoners

IN PICTURES: At least a million Catalan independentists marched through Barcelona on Saturday under the slogan 'Neither prison nor exile,' calling for the releases of nine political prisoners before touring former penitentiary "La Model.'

Catalan President Quim Torra posted on Twitter: "What's the problem? Spain must confront the reality of its injustice and this indecency that is allowing it to hold political prisoners. Every minute that our prisoners are in jail and not at home with their family and friends, it is a grave injustice and we will not allow it."

"'La Model' was supposed to be an exemplary prison. But although the design and the idea was to improve human conditions, the past showed that this wasn’t always the case. 'La Model' was originally designed for a maximum of 800 prisoners, but this amount was exceeded multiple times," said historian Maria Figueroa. Photo:Reuters
