The former Bolivian leader's return to Argentina is scheduled to take place this weekend.
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales arrived Monday in Havana, Cuba, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of an unscheduled trip for health reasons.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla confirmed on his Twitter account the arrival of the former president to the Caribbean island, where he has traveled on other occasions to attend to his health issues with Cuban doctors.
Morales was received at the José Martí International Airport in the capital by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Nothing prevents him as a political refugee from going to Cuba," said recently Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez, who granted Morales political refugee status days after the coup d'état in Bolivia on December 10, 2019.
"I think he traveled because he needs medical treatment," said the center-left Argentine president, without giving any further details, in an interview with Radio Continental.

Evo Morales, 60, traveled to Havana in 2017 and 2018 to undergo throat surgery. He also stopped in the Cuban capital from Mexico for a medical check-up before taking refuge in Buenos Aires.
The former Bolivian leader's return to Argentina is scheduled for this weekend, according to Evo Morales' press office in Argentina.
Upon his return, Evo Morales will continue to work actively in Buenos Aires for the presidential candidacy of his former economy minister, Luis Arce, for the upcoming elections on May 3.
