"Venezuela is one of the countries that has improved its human development indices in recent years; this is the product of the actions of the Bolivarian Revolution."

The Communist Party of Ecuador (PCE) has pledged its support for Venezuela and the May 20 elections, urging the Ecuadorean government and the Organization of American States (OAS) to do the same.

In a statement signed by Secretary General Paul Almeida Pozo, the PCE also rejects "interventionist intention" in Venezuela and calls for the nation's sovereignty to be respected.

"Venezuela is one of the countries that has improved its human development indices in recent years; this is the product of the actions of the Bolivarian Revolution that began under the leadership of Commander Hugo Chavez and continues with the leadership of President Nicolas Maduro," the statement reads.

The PCE also condemned Venezuela's treatment in the international press: "While the media hide information about the brutality and corruption of the governments of Brazil and Argentina... the fraud and violence in Honduras... in the Venezuelan case those same media, lackeys and spokesmen of the interests of imperialism... have endeavored to generate a scenario of uncertainty and social and political crisis, which is contrasted with the objective reality of a people that has ratified its support for the Bolivarian Revolution."

The OAS was also singled out as a group that has lent "itself to the game of imperialism and has even tried to deal with a possible application of the democratic charter to support the pretensions of imperialism."
