It's the fifth national guardsman to be killed since the beginning of the violent protests.

An innocent young man was set on fire and stabbed by hooded men who were part of a violent opposition protest in La Castellana Monday.

Giovanny Gonzalez, 24 years old, was transferred to the intensive care unit of the hospital where he was taken after the attack, where he is now stable, Interior Minister Nestor Luis Reverol posted on his Twitter account, along with a photo of the young man Monday.

“Another demonstration of the hate crimes of the fascist right wing,” he commented, saying that the hooded assailants “confused him with a Chavista supporter” during another day of violent protests and vandalism in the Caracas district.

"A young man identified as Giovanny Gonzalez (24) was burnt and stabbed by hooded men in La Castellana, thinking he was a Chavista."

The state official also denounced that 80 people violently broke into a soccer game — the finale of the country's professional league — and tried to “injure the players, damaging the facility and transport units, and delaying the beginning of the match for about one hour.”

Besides, three national guardsmen were injured during a shootout in the upper-class district of Miranda as they were trying to remove a barricade. They all have been hospitalized but are now in stable condition, said Reverol.

On Tuesday, another national guardsman, Ronny Alberto Araujo, 27, died from a bullet wound to his leg sustained after being shot Monday night in Maracay — the fifth since the beginning of the violent opposition protests.
