Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary, Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, met on Thursday with the Consul General of the Republic of South Sudan, Gatkuoth Gai, in Port Sudan, accompanied by the representative of South Sudanese oil companies, James Kuol Deng.

The State of South Sudan has expressed its desire to open a consulate in the city of Portsudan, east of the country, in preparation for resuming the work of its embassy in Sudan.
Following the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), most ministries, diplomatic missions and international organizations moved to the coastal city controlled by the army.
According to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), the meeting discussed strengthening "the strong fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to enhance them."

The meeting also discussed the desire of the Republic of South Sudan to open a consulate in Port Sudan in preparation for the resumption of the embassy’s work from Port Sudan.
For his part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary welcomed the Consul, stressing the Ministry’s readiness to facilitate his mission to continue their work in Portsudan. He said that all the needs of the Consul will be provided to assist the Consulate in performing its work, “within the framework of the distinguished relations between the two brotherly peoples.”
