Second Person Dead From Peru's 7.1-Magnitude Quake

Eduardo Nanchu Seron, age 34, passed away in the hospital after suffering from major head injuries in the midst of the tremor. 

The 7.1-magnitude earthquake, which hit souther Peru Monday night has now taken the lives of two people.

Eduardo Nanchu Seron age 34 is the second person to die as a result of the massive quake.

Seron passed away in the Hospital Regional de Ica after he suffered major head injuries from falling debris caused by the tremor. 

Peru's Chief of Civil Defense said on Sunday that the earthquake had killed one person, destroyed 63 homes and displaced about 130 people.

Thus far it has injured 65 people.

The earthquake hit the coast of the South American country which sits on the dreaded Ring of Fire, an area in the Pacific Ocean prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The massive quake hit 41 kilometers south-southwest of Acari, according to the USGS.

The Governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio, posted on Twitter that there were multiple people in Chala, Caraveli Province who suffered minor harm in addition to some structural damage and landslides occurred, AccuWeather reported.

The governor tweeted, citing the civil defense head, saying that health centers reported 20 individuals with superficial injuries. 

The National Weather Service reported that the massive tremor sparked tsunami fears in the Pacific. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said tsunami waves are possible within 300 kilometers of the epicenter along the coast of Peru.

The region in which the earthquake struck has a population of 10 million, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
