“We stand also with the Venezuelan people and leadership resisting these attacks," the PFLP's statement reads.

Right-wing foundations in the United States that fund attacks on labor and popular movements, and fund Zionist lobby organizations in the West for anti-Palestinian campaigns, are also funding the Brazilian right-wing elites campaign against the government of Dilma Rousseff, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said in a statement Wednesday.

The group said it “stands with the people’s movements and popular classes of Brazil in denouncing and demanding an end to the U.S.-supported “constitutional coup” taking place against the elected government of President Dilma Rousseff.”

The PFLP, Palestine’s main secular Marxist-Leninist and revolutionary socialist organization, slammed the Senate-imposed government of Michel Temer over its removal of ministries for human rights, women, and social justice as well as its planned austerity policies that will mostly affect the poor.

“Temer’s elite-driven regime seeks to impose a policy of austerity on the poorest five percent of the country and has announced the goal of seeking new trade and economic agreements with the United States and European Union – rejecting Brazil’s leading role in developing the independent economies of Latin America,” the statement said.

The group argue that the move against the leftist government of Rousseff is a “coup … orchestrated by the most right-wing, elite, major capitalist sectors of the Brazilian economy, in league with global capital and U.S. imperialism.”

The statement also highlights recent reports indicating that acting president Temer was an informant for the U.S. Embassy on Brazilian politics, as revealed by WikiLeaks.

After Temer assumed his position as the head of the country, the Israeli media expressed excitement and said it would improve the country’s relations with Israel, the PFLP statement said, adding that boosting ties would be “doubtlessly at the expense of the Palestinian, and Brazilian, people.”

In fact, Brazilian and Israeli ties drastically worsened over the appointment of a new Israeli ambassador to Brazil just a few months ago.

Rousseff rejected the Israeli pick for envoy, who is known as a right-wing settler leader. After a standoff lasting months, Israel bowed to pressure from Brazil and changed its pick.

“The Brazilian social movements, such as the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) who have consistently stood with the Palestinian people, are fighting this coup in the streets and defending Brazil’s democracy," the PFLP said.

The statement added that just like in Brazil, U.S.-backed right-wing elites across Latin America have been engaged in a process against progressive and leftist governments.

“We stand also with the Venezuelan people and leadership resisting these attacks," the PFLP conclude.
