Residents of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine have organized a demonstration on Thursday showing support for Scotland, as that country goes to the polls to vote for independence.
At the demonstration there were Scottish flags side by side with the flags of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.
Residents held signs saying, “We are for peace and freedom!” along with, “Scotland, go forward!”

One resident said to Reuters, "We are standing (here) in support of the referendum that is taking place in Scotland I am happy that they finally held a referendum. They have dreamed about this referendum for a very long time, and finally their wish came true. I hope they will accomplish everything this time, otherwise, I think, they will not be given such a chance again.”
"I support the Scots. Their referendum is going peacefully, without war. I'm very jealous, and I wish them all the best," resident Natalia Isaeva said to the Russian channel, LifeNews.
Russia has not taken a stance on the vote, with Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, stating earlier this year that the Scottish referendum was “Britain’s internal affair”.
The people of Scotland began voting at 7am local time on Thursday, and polls close at 10am.
Polls show the vote will be tight, with many undecided.
