The 39th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema kicked off in Cuba on Friday with a screening of Brazilian feature film ''O Filme da minha vida'' (The Movie of My Life).

Taking place at the Karl Marx theater in Havana, the opening will also showcase a concert by the Camerata Romeu chamber orchestra and Cuban pianist Alejandro Falcon.
The event, which runs until December 17, includes screenings of 19 feature films, 18 premiers, 23 documentaries, 18 short and medium-length films, 16 animated films, 20 unpublished scripts and 24 posters competing for the Coral Prize.

Tribute are also being paid to North American film director James Ivory, whose nine movies will be screened at the festival.
