The Titanic 2, will be an exact replica of the 1912 cruiser with modern navigational instruments and sufficient lifeboats.

The world’s second Titanic will take to the sea in 2022 and embark on the fateful journey set out by its predecessor over a century ago, China’s Blue Star Line said Tuesday.

Despite preliminary financial complications, construction is underway and directors say the ship, christened Titanic 2, will be an exact replica of the 1912 cruiser with modern, top-of-the-line navigational instruments and an appropriate number of lifeboats.

“Blue Star Line will create an authentic Titanic experience, providing passengers with a ship that has the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, while integrating modern safety procedures, navigation methods and 21st-century technology to produce the highest level of luxurious comfort,” said Blues Star Line Chairman Clive Palmer.

The US$500 million ship will sail from Dubai to Southampton, England before setting off to New York with a 900-member crew and 2,400 passengers aboard.

“The ship will continue the original journey... but it will also go around the world, inspiring and fascinating people while attracting unmatched attention, intrigue, and mystery in every port you visit,” Palmer said.

“Millions have dreamt of sailing on her, seeing her in port and experiencing her unique majesty. Titanic II will be the ship where those dreams come true.”

Many have criticized the project as macabre. Similar expeditions, such as Bluefish’s diving trip to the wreck of the Titanic, however, have defended their business as a guided historical tour.

Steve Sims, founder of The Bluefish told CNN, "The people who tend to want to go are very respectful. And you can only do eight to nine civilians on a ship. So you're not getting a bunch of giggling teenagers who are spending over $100,000 to go along and get selfies.”

Ticket sales on the Titanic II have not been released but according to reports, but enthusiasts will be able to reserve first, second, and third class cabins.
