Governor Miguel Ángel Yunes confirmed that 10 bodies were discovered in Xalapa, Veracruz.
“There are nine people who were located in this truck and one more who was killed in the morning, trying to escape their captors, jumped the vehicle they were carrying and was killed in the same place,” the governor explained.
“There are ten people (murdered) yesterday (Saturday) in Xalapa. And the leader of the gang is fully identified, the criminal activity he carried out was basically kidnapping and he participated in other types of criminal activities.
Yunes added that confrontation among criminal elements was the cause of the outbreak of violence on the weekend. The bodies, he added, which were found inside the truck were those of bad people.
“The identification of all the people who were executed has been achieved. Several of them are part of a gang known as Los Tigrillos,” he added.
“It is clear that it is a confrontation between criminals, they are not good people. They are not people who were engaged in lawful activities... and knew perfectly well the risks that run when they engage in activities of that nature,” he said.
Yunes announced that new security measures would be put in place to help fight crime in Veracruz.
The city has been a hotbed for criminals where multiple attacks, assassinations, kidnappings and disappearances of over a dozen journalists.
