According to the Afghan interior ministry, the device detonated near an intelligence service building. Fox News reported that the victims of the attack include passengers in a vehicle that was passing near the site.

A government spokesperson, Omar Zwak, told Chinese news agency Xinhua that a minibus carrying 10 people triggered the device. Zwak said three occupants of the bus received injuries as a result of the blast.

In the first three-quarters of 2017, more than 2,000 civilians were killed and over 5,000 others injured in conflict-related incidents in the middle eastern country, according to the United Nations.

Though the attack remains unclaimed, Taliban and Islamic State fighters are known to use home-made devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines to carry out acts of terror in the region.

The number of casualties resulting from IED explosions trails ground fighting and suicide attacks, Xinhua report stated.

On Sunday, Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said the army found and destroyed 117 rounds of IEDs within the past 24 hours across the country, Defense Ministry said earlier on Sunday.
