On August 29, the French President called the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro a "dictatorship."

Venezuela's Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, has rejected interventionist statements by the French President Emmanuel Macron.

Arreaza said they "undermine Venezuelan institutionality, and ignore the principles of International Law. "

On his Twitter account, he posted, "We reject the conduct of the president of France Emmanuel Macron, following the script of the European ultra right against Venezuela."

He condemned the support of the French president for "those who have committed grave and notorious crimes of corruption, which in his country are severely punished."

On August 29, Macron called the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro a "dictatorship."

Arreaza said, "We demand the French Government to respect the functioning of our institutions. I hope to resume support for dialogue, not corruption."

The Foreign Minister also hit back at the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, tweeting "We repudiate the expressions of intervention (by Rajoy) uttering attacks against Venezuelan democracy and its institutions."

He added that Spain should "respect our democracy and insttiutions. Imperial arrogance was expelled from Venezuela 200 years ago."

And Arreaza rejected the intervention of Rajoy's government in the case of right-wing opposition candidate Lilian Tintori, who is under investigation after more than US$60,000 in cash found in a vehicle she owned.
