The statement is part of a series of threats against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea which have escalated in the past twos days.

"My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before," Trump stated on Twitter, adding a few minutes later that he hoped he would never have to use it.

“But there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world!” the president ended.

In his press conference, he threatened Pyongyang with "a fury and a fire never seen in the world."

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson rushed to soothe the wave of panic which arose, saying he does not believe there was "an imminent threat" in Trump's words, and that the exchange of threats between the president and the DPRK does not mean that Washington is preparing its military.

"I think the president just wanted to be clear with the North Korean regime about the unquestionable ability of the U.S. to defend itself and its allies," said Tillerson
