Temer Becomes Most Unpopular President in Brazil's History

President Michel Temer became most unpopular president in Brazil's history since the end of the military dictatorship, with only 3 percent of support and 82 percent of disapproval according to a survey released Sunday Datafolha by for the daily Folha de Sao Paulo.

According to analysts, his unpopularity increased further with the prolonged strike of unionized truck drivers that paralyzed the country between May 21-31.

The survey was carried out on June 6 and 7. About 14 percent of the people surveyed found his mandate “normal.”

Datafolha's last survey in April found a 70 percent rate of disapproval.

His economic policies and the involvement of many ministers he appointed in his cabinet in corruption scandals also likely affected his approval rate, according to the survey.

Meanwhile, people surveyed believed that the Armed Forces represent the institution the most trust-worthy with 37 percent of approval, despite many killings of civilians during the recent military intervention in Rio de Janeiro's favelas.

Another 41 percent said they trusted “a little” the institution, and only 20 percent said they did “not at all.”
