“I think this is an ill-thought, half-baked, let's say, provocative, short-sighted step from U.S. authorities' side that can lead to unpredictable consequences.”

Syria, Iran and Russia have denounced the attack on Damascus by a coalition force formed by the United States, United Kingdom and France.

The nations have conducted a strike on a capital of a sovereign state that strives to survive terrorist aggression, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"U.S. President Donald Trump is not just a criminal for the whole world, he is Adolf Hitler number two," Alexander Sherin, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, told Russian media. Sherin explained that the United States was violating international norms by conducting the strikes and Russia views this as an act of aggression.

Yuri Shvytkin a deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, added: “I think this is an ill-thought, half-baked, let's say, provocative, short-sighted step from U.S. authorities' side that can lead to unpredictable consequences.”

"A pre-designed scenario is being implemented," Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov posted to Twitter. "Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences."

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the air attack in Syria "on targets associated with chemical weapons capabilities,” which the Russian envoy to the United States said would evoke consequences.

“The U.S. – the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons – has no moral right to blame other countries.”

Iran also warned that the ill-adviced strike on Syria would have “regional consequences” follow.

“The United States and its allies have no proof and, without even waiting for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to take a position, have carried out this military attack... and are responsible for the regional consequences,” Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said.

Syria has endured a seven-year-long war.
