Putin and Lula Advocate Free Entry of Aid to Gaza

In a telephone conversation held on Monday, Presidents Vladimir Putin (Russia) and Lula da Silva (Brazil) advocated for the evacuation of foreigners from Gaza and the free entry of humanitarian aid for the Palestinians.

"The importance of an early ceasefire, the evacuation of foreign citizens from the Gaza Strip and the guarantee of free entry to the enclave of humanitarian aid was expressed," the Kremlin said in a statement.

With an eye on the current Brazilian presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Putin and Lula addressed cooperation between both countries in order to adopt without delay in the United Nations "effective measures to de-escalate the crisis."

The objective of their common work would be to promote the peace process in order to create an independent Palestinian State that lives in peace and security with Israel.

Recently, Russia and Brazil presented resolutions to the UNSC to achieve a humanitarian pause between Israel and Hamas. These initiatives, however, did not prosper due to the opposition of the U.S. and its allies.

On Friday, the Brazilian president demanded an end to the attacks that end up killing children "in that insane fight between Hamas and the Israeli state." He also asked the world to stop "trying to resolve their differences with rockets and bullets."

Meanwhile, Putin denounced the failure of U.S. policy in the Middle East and accused Washington of ignoring both UN resolutions and the interests of the Palestinians.
