Peru's opposition Broad Front (FA) party has submitted a motion to Congress calling for U.S. President Donald Trump to be banned from the 8th Summit of the Americas, due to be held April 13 and 14 in Lima.

The party is requesting that the government declare him "persona non grata," insisting that his policies are "contrary to human rights" and encourage "xenophobic practices against millions of migrants," and that his foreign policy "breaks diplomatic channels."
It is also condemning Trump's policies as embodying institutional racism; the White House decision to extend the economic blockade against Cuba, as well as Trump's move to relocate the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, 14 members of the Organization of American States (OAS) have declared that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is no longer welcome at the summit, citing his unwillingness to cancel the presidential elections scheduled for April 22.
Since the OAS announcement earlier this week, Bolivia, Cuba and Uruguay have publicly backed Venezuela in direct opposition to the Lima Group.
