"The history teaches us not to blindly trust the US," Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Khawaja Asif, has blasted U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration for accusing the country of playing a "double game" in its fight against terrorism through a slew of scathing tweets.

"History teaches us not to blindly trust the US," Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted, as he recounted Pakistan's efforts in aiding the U.S. in its so-called "war on terror."

"You have asked what did we do? A dictator surrendered [before the US] on a single phone call, our country witnessed the worse bloodbath, you carried out 57,800 attacks on Afghanistan from our bases, your forces were supplied arms and explosives through our soil, thousands of our civilians and soldiers became victims of the war initiated by you," Asif tweeted.

"We considered your enemy as our own, we filled Guantanamo Bay, we served you with such enthusiasm that we left our country with load shedding and gas shortage. We tried to please you on the cost of our economy, we provided tens of thousands of visas as a result of which the networks of Black Water spread across our country," the foreign minister wrote in another tweet.

On Monday in a series of tweets, Trump accused Pakistan of "nothing but lies and deceit" concerning its counterterrorism operations and has since been widely condemned for the statement.

"The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools,” Trump wrote in a tweet on Monday. "They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”

Following Trump's insulting remark, Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called a National Security Committee, NSC, meeting. The committee has expressed "deep disappointment."

Trump's remarks "were completely incomprehensible as they contradicted facts manifestly, struck with great insensitivity at the trust between two nations built over generations, and negated the decades of sacrifices made by the Pakistani nation," the committee said in a statement.

Asif ended his tweetstorm saying "For the past four years, we have been clearing the debris. Our forces are fighting in an exemplary manner; there is an unending saga of sacrifices. The past teaches us not to blindly trust the US. We are feeling sorry as you are not happy but we will not compromise on our prestige anymore."

The U.S.-Pakistan relations have taken a significant hit over the past few years as the former has often accused Pakistan of its links to the Haqqani network in the region. U.S. ambassador Nikki Haley also announced Wednesday that the U.S. would withhold the US$255 million in assistance to Pakistan.
