This is the first web series to come from the Central American nation.

While tersely titled, a new web series is set to make a big mark: "MF, La Serie," which will explore issues of violence, sexual harassment and queerness, is the first such production to come from Nicaragua.

A group of young artists, actors, and cultural promoters behind the web portal Managua Furiosa have come together to film the series, together with a crew of over 30 film professionals and 300 non-professional actors.

The plot follows the trials and tribulation of three young "Nicas": a college student from a rural community, an LGBT woman from the capital city and a rich urbanite.

With a small budget of US$80,000, funding was an issue for the unique project.

“Getting together funding and locations has been complicated,” producer Roberto Guillen recently told Diario Metro. “There are different businesses run by young entrepreneurs that have supported us, but we must call upon private companies … because without them it’s impossible to make (projects like this).”

The series is set to launch January 24 and will premiere on Managua Furiousa’s digital platform.
