Klein openly expressed support for Bernie Sanders because of his track record on standing up to corporate power.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan Friday, renowned Canadian author and filmmaker Naomi Klein said she did not trust Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to take necessary actions on climate change if elected president of the United States.

Klein is not convinced of Clinton's promises and quoted the former Secretary of State's track record on the issue.

"I don't trust her on climate at all," said Klein. As secretary of state, when she had a huge megaphone to make this an issue, to show that she understands the connections between human security and climate, she didn't use the megaphone.”

The bestseller author, social activist and film maker compared Clinton to current Secretary of State, John Kerry, arguing that he has done more to advocate for climate change action in the U.S..

"One of his first speeches was about climate change and human security, he talked about climate change as a weapon of mass destruction, he connected in with the war in Syria.

Klein added that Clinton never showed that kind of enthusiasm when she was Secretary of State adding that in fact there is reason to question whether Clinton would be a suitable candidate for president as such.

“The logic of her candidacy was because she had so much money […] which is why she is unbeatable — look at how deep the pockets are there. But the irony is, it’s where that money comes from and the entanglement of the Clinton Foundation with so many corporations and so many governments, that is what makes her vulnerable.”

So on the one hand, it supposed to be what makes it inevitable, and on the other hand it what I think makes her a weak candidate explained Klein.

She called Bernie Sanders a "significantly better candidate" and thinks that Bernie Sanders could win in a general election.

Klein has expressed her views on Clinton in earlier interviews, calling it naive to think that electing the former first lady would change anything about the U.S. stance on climate change.

Klein's 2014 bestseller "This Changes Everything" was described as "the most momentous and contentious environmental book since Silent Spring" by the New York Times.

In the book she claims that climate change is a symptom of our broken economic system while stressing that capitalism is incapable of providing the necessary actions to prevent a catastrophe.
