Presidential hopeful Donald Trump continues to push anti-immigrant views seeking to mobilise right-wing voters in the U.S.

The administration of President Enrique Peña Nieto said that Mexico is not going to pay for a wall along the border with the U.S., as controversial tycoon Donald Trump advocated on Tuesday.

“They have really taken advantage of us both economically and at the border. They will pay for that fence.”  Trump said.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Peña's spokesperson Eduardo Sanchez, said the Mexican government does not view Trump's statements as a serious proposal.

"Of course it's false... It reflects an enormous ignorance of what Mexico represents, and also the irresponsibility of the candidate who's saying it."  Sanchez said.

The Mexican official added that Mexicans in the U.S. work with passion and that they do their jobs well, he also said that the billionaire's comments reflect an enormous lack of knowledge of the reality in the U.S.

The presidential hopeful, who is the current Republican frontrunner, has been attacked by millions of Mexicans and Latinos around the globe for his hardline stance on immigration and criticism of Mexican immigrants as the harbingers of "crime, drugs and rapists" to the United States.

In response, the Mexican government called his statements “prejudiced and absurd”, saying the mogul was disrespecting the contributions made by immigrants, from across the world, for support and development of the U.S.
