The male cub, whose species is in danger of extinction, was lying on newspaper clippings.

A two-month-old tiger cub was found in a box in the western Mexican state of Jalisco in the central American country, according to authorities.

Police officials reportedly became aware of movement and sound coming from inside the box, following which a dog assigned to Federal Forces duty sniffed out the cub, which was found without food in a blue plastic container.

The lid of the box was secured with tape and there were also several perforations made in the container to allow air to enter.

The male cub, whose species is in danger of extinction, was lying on newspaper clippings.

The forces alerted and sort guidance of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Attorney's Office for Environmental Protection regarding the handling of the animal.

The sedated Bengal cat was packaged to be shipped to Queretaro from the Nueva Central de Autobuses.

The tiger is currently in the custody of the Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente – an administrative body of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

The entities will next review the permits for the possession of the animal.

This is the third cat discovered by federal police in recent weeks.

On Jan. 25, a female Bengal tiger cub was found in a parcel company in Xoxocotlán, Oaxaca and last Saturday a jaguar was located in a cage near a highway in Chihuahua.
