The State Prosecutor Office of Chihuahua informed that between Friday and Saturday a new wave of violence has resulted in the deaths of 30 persons in Ciudad Juarez, a city on the Mexico-U.S. border. The killing of Juan Arturo Padilla, known as "The Genie," reportedly started the wave of crime.

Due to the killing spree, authorities have ordered the increasing of police and military units in the city. "Nearly a hundred agents of the State Security Commission left for Ciudad Juarez (...) to strengthen and intensify activities in matters of public safety," a statement from the State Prosecutor office said.
The most violent scene took place on Friday where authorities found 11 bodies, eight men and three women, in a house. During the last 48 hours, the forensic services received 30 bodies, from different crimes scenes across Ciudad Juarez.
During the last decade, Ciudad Juarez has been considered one of the most violent places in the world. According to official figures in 2017, authorities registered 2,004 murders. Since the beginning of 2018, some 534 killings have happened, 177 in July alone.
President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has announced that the "consultation forums for reconciliation and peace," are planned to start on August 7, in the city. These forums are designed to help the new government, which will be sworn-in in December, devise a public security and reconciliation plan for the country.
