Spanish club Atletico Madrid and German giants Bayern Munich are through to the Champions League semi-finals after doing enough in their quarter final second leg ties on Wednesday night.

Atletico, managed by the energetic Argentine Diego Simeone, perhaps pulled the shock of the tournament so far by beating reigning champions Barcelona 2-0 at the Vicente Calderón Stadium thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann either side of halftime.
Griezmann sealed victory with a penalty in the 88th minute.
Atletico overturned a 2-1 deficit from the first round of the tie to stun the Catalonians, who were well below their best, to win the round 3-2 on aggregate.
Barca were denied a clear penalty when Gabi handled just inside the area, despite fervent protests from Barca's players.
Barcelona star Lionel Messi failed to score for the fifth game in a row for his club, and Neymar and Luis Suarez were left frustrated by a solid home defense.
Portuguese side Benfica gave Bayern Munich a scare at the Estádio da Luz after they took the league through Jimenez Rodriguez on the 27th minute to draw the tie level. The Germans secured a 1-0 victory in Munich last week.
However goals from Chilean Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller put Bayern in front before Souza Conceição made in 2-2 on the 76th minute.
Bayern progressed 3-2 on aggregate, like in the night’s other quarter final, despite the draw.
The pair now join Manchester City and Real Madrid in the semi-final draw on Friday.
