"You talked there about your commitment to peace, but the Israelis showed me your involvement in incitement,” Trump allegedly shouted at Abbas.

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly yelled at Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas during a meeting.

According to reports by an Israeli television channel, Trump accused Abbas of playing a part in inciting violence. “You tricked me in [Washington] DC! You talked there about your commitment to peace, but the Israelis showed me your involvement in incitement [against Israel],” Trump allegedly shouted at the Palestinian leader.

The Palestinian Authority has dismissed the report, saying that the 23 May meeting went well.

Trump's outburst was reportedly followed by several minutes of silence, disclosed Israel’s Channel 2. The alleged exchange was initially broadcasted in Hebrew and then tweeted in English by reporter Udi Segal.

However, the Channel 2 report does not mirror the exchange between the two leaders during a televised media conference after the private meeting in Bethlehem. “Meeting you in the White House earlier this month gave us hope… and optimism of the possibility to make the long-standing dream of lasting peace come true,” Abbas said, emphasizing the Palestinian leadership’s desire for a two-state solution.

Trump and Abbas first met on May 3 at the White House when the U.S. president boldly stated his desire to do “whatever is necessary” to achieve a lasting peace deal in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Trump’s Administration also called on the Palestinian Authority to do more to tackle violence against Israelis.

Speaking at Israel’s National Museum just before he left the region, Trump: “I had a meeting this morning with [President] Abbas and can tell you that the Palestinians are ready to reach for peace,” before making a gesture towards Netanyahu. “In my meeting with my very good friend Benjamin, I can tell you also, that he is reaching for peace. He wants peace,” the US President said.

Trump warned that such a historic undertaking will not come easily.
