After two days of strikes in the Quneitra province in southwest Syria, Israeli forces attacked government forces in the region, killing three and injuring two members of Syria's National Defense Forces in the Naba al-Fawwar area of Quneitra province in Golan Heights, Al Jazeera reported.

Much of the Quneitra territory is controlled by Israel, which remains in conflict with Syria since it launched the Six-Day War in 1967, attacking Syria and occupying the western two-thirds of the Golan Heights, which belong to Syria.
Israeli forces said Friday the attack was in retaliation for mortar fire that hit the Israeli-occupied northern part of Golan Heights. The ambiguous statement from the Israelis did not divulge any details. "The Israeli army targeted the source of the fire," it said.
An Israeli military spokeswoman told AFP that she couldn't identify any targets that were hit or elaborate on details as to how Israel retaliated. According to Syria's official news agency, Israeli armed forces struck a Syrian Army position Sunday, "causing damage." According to the agency, Israeli fire came "after a bid by terrorist groups to infiltrate Syrian military positions was foiled." The agency was referring to armed anti-government forces, aided by the U.S. and other Western forces, who continue to carry out a campaign against the country.
