The Israeli military carried out two airstrikes in the Palestinian Gaza strip Wednesday as a response to a rocket fired from the strip toward Israel. The Israeli attacks targeted two military facilities operated by the Hamas movement, which runs government affairs in the strip.

Both sides confirmed the airstrikes and there were no reports of casualties from either the rocket or the retaliatory strikes.
Sources in Gaza told Ma’an News agency that the strikes targeted Hamas training camps and also caused material damages to nearby homes.

Since the end of the Israel’s 50-day campaign of indiscriminate attacks on Gaza during the summer of 2014, which killed more than 500 Palestinian children, a cease-fire has been maintained between the two sides. But the Israeli army made at least 49 incursions into the strip since the start of 2015, according to the United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Since the last conflict, most of the rockets fired from the strip were claimed by a group with links to the Islamic State group, on whose members Hamas authorities have cracked down. Israel, however, blames Hamas for the all the incidents, and nearly always retaliates with airstrikes against the enclave.
Last month, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed a woman who was five months pregnant and her three-year-old daughter. The Israeli army said at the time the strikes targeted "two Hamas weapon manufacturing facilities in the northern Gaza Strip," and made no mention of hitting civilian homes.
