This week teleSUR’s Media Review programme takes a look at the rise of Islamic State

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or Islamic State group, according to the United Nations is responsible for human rights abuses and war crimes.

This week, on teleSUR’s original series, Media Review, writer Richard Seymour takes a look at the birth, rise and media-purported U.S.-influenced descent of this “extremist terrorist organization”.

According to Seymour, “The morbid fixation on ISIS' doings - both gruesome and mundane – fuels the cult as it grows, as well as drives up media revenues.”

But as Seymour notes, these are not uniquely barbarous crimes, “...what ISIS justifies with chilling theological rectitude has already been practised by the US and its allies.”

Seymour weighs in on an organization which has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Egypt, India, and Russia.
