Evo Morales’ administration and the Iroquois have maintained friendly relationships since the election of Morales in 2006.

A delegation from the U.S. Native American Iroquois tribe, also known as the Haudenosaunee, discussed various topics with Bolivian President Evo Morales during a private meeting on the final day of the World People’s Conference on Climate Change in Cochabamba.

Mohawk Chief Howard Thompson thanked Morales for his stance on climate change, saying his administration and the native tribe had a very similar position on the matter.

Morales thanked the delegation for its gifts — artwork representing the Iroquis’ Tree of Peace and a flag.

Morales also thanked the Iroquois for their support since the beginning of his term. He met with them in 2006 and 2010, and has also asked for their support over Bolivia's land dispute with Chile, which will be soon reviewed at the International Court of Justice.

The delegation also invited Morales to visit their territory during his next visit to United States.

At the end of the closed-door meeting, the media was invited for a photo shoot.
