The Attorney General's Office initiated an investigation to identify those responsible for this premeditated homicide, in which two police commanders lost their lives.

The incident occurred after 2:00 pm on Monday near the Acapulco - Zihuatanejo federal highway. The group of municipal police officers was en route to a station in the village of El Papayo when they were ambushed by an armed group.

According to images circulating on social media, they were forced out of their patrol cars and subsequently murdered.

During the ambush, Public Security Secretary Alfredo Alonso, Municipal Police Director Honorio Salinas, and five officers were killed. Another group of six officers, some of whom had their hands bound behind their backs, was taken a short distance away to be executed.

Coyuca de Benites Mayor Ossiel Pacheco strongly condemned the attack and requested that the Attorney General's Office conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the facts and bring those responsible for the crime to justice. These events reflect the escalating violence in the state of Guerrero, where organized crime groups are vying for control of territories.

Guerrero currently ranks seventh in the nation for the number of homicides, with 800 recorded in the first half of 2023, according to Mexico's Secretariat of Public Safety and Civil Protection.
