The Haitian parliament will elect a transitional president on Saturday, almost one week after former President Michel Martelly officially stepped down from office.
The deadline to register as candidates for the country’s transitional leader ended on Friday, with 13 people registering to run for the position of provisional president. The winner is supposed to be sworn-in Sunday.
The winner needs 47 votes in the lower chamber and 13 in the senate to win.

The temporary leadership position is supposed to last no more than 120 days.
The country's electoral council will then organize the postponed run-off election for Apr. 24, announcing final results on May 6, with the newly elected president swearing on May 14.
The first round of Haiti's presidential election was held Oct. 25, 2015, but a planned run-off in December of last year has been repeatedly postponed amid intense protests and opposition allegations of electoral fraud.
