The guerrilla group expects a peace deal with the government that will allow them to be involved in national politics to be finalized soon.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) lead negotiator Ivan Marquez said Colombia needs an electoral reform that would allow their members to exchange “bullets for votes.”

"If we need to change our instruments from bullets to votes, a reform of the rules is needed, to enable a fair election," said Marquez.

Marquez said their forces need to secure their rights to security, integrity and involvement in politics.

The guerrilla leader sent his remarks to the Lower House of Colombia, with the request for it to be analyzed in an official meeting by lawmakers.

The peace talks between the Colombian government and rebel groups are expected to end soon, with a final peace deal expected in the coming weeks.

Both sides have successfully negotiated partial agreements on agrarian reform, political participation, illicit drugs, and the rights of victims and transitional justice. It also includes a cease-fire and disarmament by the FARC.
