The festival will run for a period of 11 days, from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1, in the southern city of Loja. This year's FIAVL will showcase more than 300 artists, 30 presentations, and 16 national performance groups. It will also host 14 international performance groups.

Ecuadorean groups participating in the festival include: the Antropolis Theater Company; Scene Zone Corporation; Entrañas Ceibadanza Theater; Theater of Heaven; and the Invisible City just to name a few.

Confirmed international groups who will present during the festival include: Els Comediants (Spain); Le Padox (France); Odin Teatret (Denmark); Elastic (Belgium); My Company Theater (Colombia); Counters of Lies (Brazil), among others.

"It is part of the government's public policy that seeks to provide better conditions for cultural development in the country," wrote Ecuador's Culture Minister Raul Perez Torres in a prepared statement. He added that the festival is "the greatest event in the performing arts of Ecuador."

Inspired by similar arts festivals held in Edinborough, Scotland and Avignon, France, FIAVL is described by the Ecuadorean government as being an “exportable cultural event that will showcase the creative talent of Ecuadorean artists."

National groups and artists selected to participate in the second edition of the festival were chosen through an open call and selected via an external curatorial committee composed of three judges.
