A new TV series about the beginnings of the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro will premiere in Cuba. “Column 1,” the series title, references the guerrilla column incorporated by Cuba's national hero, Jose Marti, and was taken up by Fidel Castro as he led an armed insurrection against U.S.-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista.

The historical program will show clips that begin with the landing of Granma, the yacht that sailed revolutionaries from Mexico to Cuba, to the triumph of the guerrillas after taking the capital city of Havana.

The TV series, a joint production by Mundo Latino and the Ministry of the Revolutionary Forces, will consist of 10 chapters running 12 minutes each. It's dedicated to the 91st anniversary of Fidel Castro.

The program is scheduled to broadcast from July 24 to August 13.

With U.S. President Donald Trump outlining his hardline policy toward Cuba just last week, “Column 1” will be a good historical review of the immense sacrifices made by ancestral compatriots to secure the independence and sovereignty of an island that was once deemed a playground by the United States.
