Brazil lived up to predictions in an easy victoryover Haiti.

MATCH SUMMARY: Brazil vs. Haiti 7-1

Brazil was comfortable in its victory over Haiti, they were in control the whole game as they begin to build momentum going into the next stage of the tournament.

Brazil took the lead early in the 14th minute from a shot outside the box by Philippe Coutinho. He then doubled his team’s lead with a close range shot from a Jonas assist in the 29th minute.

Haiti goalkeeper Johnny Placide gifted the ball to the Brazilians and was caught off his line by a header from Renato Augusto, making it 3-0 at the 35th minute.

In the second half Brazil extended its lead in the 59th minute from a Gabriel goal. He easily beat the keeper after the Brazilian attack cut through the Haiti defense.

Lucas Lima then made it 5-0 after connecting with a cross in the 67th minute.

Haiti scored its first foul of the tournament number in the 69th minute. James Marcelin latched onto a rebound off the Brazil goalkeeper to score, but the game was all but over and had been for some time.

Augusto netted his second goal for Brazil in the 86th minute. Coutinho then completed his hat trick in extra time to give the Brazilians a confidence boosting win before they face off against the dangerous Peru.

The last time Brazil was involved in a 7-1 scoreline it was one of the country’s darkest games, humiliated by Germany on their own soil in the World Cup in 2014. Some believe that the Brazil team has not been the same since.

Haiti will play their final game against Ecuador.

MATCH PREVIEW: Brazil vs. Haiti

Brazil and Haiti face each other in just their third encounter in history in Orlando, Florida at 7:30 p.m. ET

The contrast between the two teams could not be bigger. Brazil has won five World Cups and is expected to win every game it plays. A win for Haiti against such a famous opponent would be go down in national sporting history. Haiti is the lowest ranked team in the Copa America at 71.

But the Brazilian team is not getting ahead of themselves, “there is no such thing as an easy game in the Copa America," defender Marquinhos said.

“We need to respect our opponent and know that nothing is given to us just because we are Brazil. We need to perform and we need to earn all the points we get,'' he added.

The Brazil team looked flat without some of their international stars in the 0-0 draw with Ecuador on Saturday. Brazil was lucky to manage a draw after Ecuador was controversially denied a goal.

Since Dunga has taken over as coach, Brazil has not been at its usual best and is missing many big name players at the Copa America, most notably Barcelona star Neymar. Brazil has drawn six of its last 14 Copa America matches.
