Presidential candidates had one last opportunity to present their proposals to the Brazilian people. The general elections for President, Legislature and regional officials will occur on Sunday, October 5.

On Thursday night, Brazil's presidential candidates presented their positions during the country's last televised debate. The candidates spoke on their proposals about national security, corruption, drugs, education, privatization, abortion and commented on each other's political platforms.

During the first round, Dilma Rousseff, current President looking for reelection with the Worker's Party (PT) highlighted the government’s advances and the implementation of social services. She spoke of the program Brazil without Misery, an economic campaign that Rousseff cites has helped 56 million citizens.

According to the polls, Rousseff is in first place with 40 percent.

Rousseff also critiqued the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) candidate Marina Silva for her proposed plans to convert the Central Bank into an autonomous body. Rousseff claims that this would create a fourth power in the government and would create less employment and dissolve salaries.

Luciana Genro, candidate for Socialism and Freedom, accused Silva for aligning with the oligarchy. Genro also questioned Silva's inconsistent political position during the campaign trail.

Genro also pointed out that Brazilian Social Democratic Party (PSDB) candidate Aecio Neves, used public funds to build private airports while serving as governor of Minas Gerias (2003.2010).

O Globo television channel organized the debate. Eduardo Jorge (Green Party), Levy Fidelix (Labour Renewal Party) and Pastor Everaldo (Social Christian Party) also participated.

General elections in Brazil will take place on Sunday.
