Newly elected Executive Secretary Juan Carlos Huarachi said: "Workers must be the guarantee of the Change Process that takes place in Bolivia," referring to Morales' policies of the last 12 years. "The right has not rested in these 12 years (under) President Evo Morales."

The trade union stressed that, as an autonomous entity, the COB will work on behalf of all workers.

Just last week, Morales lauded the trade union, posting on his Twitter account: "The COB was created with anti-imperialist principles, we have a government that is also anti-imperialist. Together we will recover the Homeland, build the New Bolivia.

"If a leader or ex-manager of COB is upset by this alliance, it is because they are pro-imperialist, it is their right."

The COB has been active in politics since 1952. It also supported Morales when he was first elected in 2006.
