Daniel Scioli, a potential candidate in the upcoming Argentine presidential elections, announced Tuesday that he wants Carlos Zannini, one of incumbent President Cristina Fernandez’s closest advisers, to be his vice-presidential running mate.
Scioli, the left-leaning governor of Buenos Aires, previously ran as the vice-presidential candidate alongside Nestor Kircher, Fernandez's husband and predecessor.
"I spoke with Cristina [Fernandez] and gave her my point of view. I had said I wanted someone who would complement me in experience," Scioli told TV broadcaster C5N.
Zannini, who is originally from the province of Cordoba, served on the province's Supreme Court after being appointed by Kirchner. The 60-year-old lawyer has yet to formally accept Scioli’s offer.
All Presidential candidates are required to list a running mate by June 20, when they register for the August primary.
As of yet, outgoing President Cristina Fernandez has not publicly endorsed any of the potential nominees.
However, the two most likely ruling party presidential candidates include the current governor of Buenos Aires Daniel Scioli and the Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo.
According to recent polls, Scioli, has pulled ahead of his two main rivals with 33.3 percent support.
