Ai Weiwei's Theoretic Borders To Light up Amsterdam Festival of Lights

Amsterdam will unveil some original art installations featuring renowned Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei and Srilankan-British artist, Cecil Balmond in its sixth annual light festival starting Nov.30.

Nearly 36 light installations will illuminate the city center as part of the festival. The visitors will be able to experience these installations on visitors on land and water through city's picturesque canals. 

This year's theme is "existential" with Weiwei's installations focusing on theoretical borders. Weiwei's installation "thinline"-a long line representing a border, running through the city. 

Balmond's installation "infinita" on the other hand is designed to provoke a response to the essence of our existence, takes on a geometrical shape and resembles a cracked pyramid floating in the water. 

The water exposition consists of nearly 21 artworks and runs until January 21, 2018, whereas the land exposition is open until January 7, 2018, and takes place at Marineterrein Amsterdam, known to be a historic naval dock on Kattenburg Island. 

Some of the other works on display are, a circular frame lit with 576 LED lights by artist  AlexP, along with an installation by artist Reanna Niceforo and photographer Phil Sutherland, who will create an interactive photo booth which puts the spotlight on the visitors and is aimed at exploring the effects of light and projection.
