Washington continues to regard Latin America as its ‘backyard’, the Bolivian chapter of the Antifascist International stressed.
Over the weekend, Latin American antifascist and progressive social movements voiced their support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is the target of new attacks by the U.S. government.

The Bolivian chapter of the Antifascist International called those actions “nonsensical,” saying they not only reflect a high degree of arrogance and hatred but also show the United States’ ongoing attempt to subjugate Latin American peoples.
The group said that Washington continues to regard Latin America as its “backyard” and stressed that U.S. President Donald Trump is not only destroying peace in Venezuela but is also undermining the dream of a free and sovereign future for nations of the Global South.
“The Bolivarian Revolution, led by Commander Hugo Chavez and continued by President Nicolas Maduro, is a struggle for independence, for the well-being of the Venezuelan people, and for the self-determination of Latin America’s peoples,” the Bolivian antifascists said.
The Costa Rica and Guatemala chapters of the Antifascist International also rejected the new U.S. offensive against the Venezuelan people and their president. They accused Washington of being the main instigator of interventions and aggression on the continent.
“History is full of examples in which the United States has tried to subjugate our peoples: from military dictatorships imposed by the CIA to economic blockades that have strangled the economies of countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela,” they said.
The Dominican Republic’s United Left Movement and Chile’s Bicentennial Union of the Peoples issued similar statements, warning that this is not an isolated incident but part of a meticulously crafted strategy to weaken national sovereignty and the free self-determination of Latin American countries.
“The only possible response to stop that machinery will be dignity, of which Maduro is a global symbol,” they said.
In response to U.S. threats, Venezuela’s Ministry of Communes called for maximum mobilization in defense of the Bolivarian Revolution leader. It also urged strengthening civil-military-police cohesion in 5,338 communal territories for the integral defense of the homeland.
