The Governments of Venezuela and Colombia strengthened diplomatic ties today, March 13, by convening four high-level working tables at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas.

The initiative underscores a shared commitment to a robust, cooperative future, building upon established diplomatic frameworks to tackle common challenges and seize opportunities.

These crucial meetings, held within the framework of Peace Diplomacy, addressed pivotal areas including foreign relations, security and defense, commerce and tourism, and energy and oil, fostering mutual benefits for both South American nations and reinforcing regional stability.

In the realm of Security and Defense, Ministers from both countries spearheaded coordinated strategies and established cooperation protocols for their extensive 2,200-kilometer shared border.

Venezuela’s Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez and his Colombian counterpart, Pedro Sanchez Suarez agreed on a permanent coordination scheme, laying the groundwork for enhanced joint efforts to manage the frontier effectively with the agreed on a permanent coordination scheme, with the main objective to jointly combat drug trafficking, organized crime and irregular groups operating in the border area through information exchange and intelligence work.

The focus remains on establishing sustainable mechanisms that support peaceful coexistence and deter illicit activities, reinforcing the commitment of both governments to comprehensive security.

This collaboration is vital for addressing cross-border issues, promoting regional security, and ensuring the well-being of communities residing along the shared territory.

Text reads: “In the Miraflores Palace, Venezuelan and Colombian authorities held a strategic meeting with the aim of strengthening diplomatic ties between both nations. During the working session, representatives addressed high-level issues related to security, trade, tourism and energy.”

The table dedicated to Foreign Relations saw Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil and Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio meticulously crafting a roadmap designed to prioritize brotherhood and peaceful coexistence. This strategic agenda aims to deepen diplomatic understanding and cooperation, setting a precedent for amicable resolution of future challenges and ensuring a harmonious bilateral relationship.

Meanwhile, the Commerce and Tourism table highlighted significant binational economic growth, which soared to $1.170 billion dollars in 2025, marking a substantial 4.1% growth compared to the previous year.

Venezuelan Ministers Daniela Cabello and Luis Villegas, alongside their Colombian counterparts, evaluated numerous projects to further boost commercial exchange and tourist flow throughout the current year. This concerted effort seeks to capitalize on existing economic synergies and unlock new avenues for prosperity, benefiting businesses and citizens in both countries. Initiatives explored included streamlining trade procedures, promoting cross-border investments, and developing joint tourism packages to attract a wider international audience.

In the sector of Energy and Oil, the longstanding alliance between Venezuela’s state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and Colombian Ecopetrol Company was emphatically ratified for the continued supply of Venezuelan gas to Colombia.

Representatives from both nations’ electrical and petrochemical sectors participated in these discussions, underscoring the strategic importance of energy cooperation. This agreement not only ensures a stable energy supply for Colombia but also exemplifies the depth of bilateral trust and collaboration in vital economic areas. The commitment to strengthening energy partnerships is a cornerstone of the broader agenda, promising long-term benefits for industrial development and energy security across the region.
