Former U.S. NCTC Director Joe Kent is under FBI investigation for leaking classified information, reportedly to conservative media, following his resignation and public accusations of Israeli influence on U.S. foreign policy.
The former Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), Joe Kent, has been under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for months over suspicions of leaking classified information, as confirmed by three sources familiar with the case to U.S. media outlets.
This ongoing probe follows Kent’s public resignation and strong accusations against Israel’s influence on U.S. foreign policy.

According to the sources, the former high-level official is suspected of leaking sensitive information to Tucker Carlson and another conservative podcast host. The federal agency is specifically examining leaks related to Israel and Iran, topics that were central to Kent’s resignation letter. The gravity of the investigation underscores the potential national security implications of such alleged disclosures, particularly concerning critical geopolitical matters.
Kent garnered both national and international headlines after publicly announcing his resignation from his post as NCTC Director on a Tuesday. In his resignation, he publicly blamed Israel for allegedly misleading President Donald Trump into initiating a war against Iran. I
In his letter, Kent asserted that Iran “represented no imminent threat” to the United States and that the conflict originated “due to pressure from Israel and its powerful U.S. lobby.”
Immediately following his resignation, Government officials quickly indicated that Kent was “a known leak source” and had been excluded from briefings with the President.
Few specific details of the investigation have been publicly disclosed, largely because the probe revolves around classified information, which inherently restricts public statements. However, the lingering question persists as to why Kent was not immediately dismissed if he was already under investigation before his resignation. This query highlights potential procedural intricacies or strategic considerations by the administration regarding how to handle such a high-profile case involving national security.
On the Wednesday following his resignation, Kent granted a two-hour interview to Tucker Carlson, who is also a vocal critic of the war against Iran.
In his appearance with Carlson, the former official speculated that the public assassination of activist Charlie Kirk could be linked to a “foreign agent”, adding another layer of intrigue to his public statements. He also recounted a conversation with a Donald Trump advisor in the White House, where the advisor told him: “Joe, prevent us from going to war with Iran.” These declarations from Kent further fueled public debate and scrutiny over the motivations and implications of his actions and subsequent FBI investigation.
