Police spokesman General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi said on Wednesday that units from the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FARAJA), working with intelligence and security services, carried out the operation in Iranshahr in the early hours of the morning. All eight militants involved in the attack on the Daman police station were killed, and a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was seized.

The August 22 assault targeted two police patrols in Iranshahr’s Daman District, killing five officers. The armed group Jaish al-Adl later claimed responsibility.

Last month, on July 26, three members of Jaish al-Adl attacked the provincial courthouse in Zahedan, killing six civilians, including a mother and her six-month-old child, and injuring 24 others.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan, has long faced recurring violence against civilians and security forces. Iranian officials say militant groups active in the region are linked to foreign intelligence services.

On October 26 last year, ten police officers were killed in another Jaish al-Adl attack in the province’s Gohar Kuh district, one of the deadliest assaults in recent months.

The latest operation underscores the persistent security challenges in southeastern Iran, where Jaish al-Adl and other groups continue to mount armed attacks on both civilians and police.
